European Heritage Days on Provadia-Solnitsata
Thematic Tours As part of the European Heritage Days, visitors to Provadia–Solnitsata will be able to take part in special thematic tours, “Heritage at Risk: Restore, Protect, Reimagine,” focusing on the preservation of archaeological heritage. Along with the history of the site and its most significant discoveries, the tour will introduce visitors to a less visible aspect of archaeological work: what happens to uncovered structures after they have been excavated and documented. Visitors will learn how different types of archaeological structures are preserved: the stone defensive structures, remains of prehistoric dwellings, and the installations associated with salt production. The main challenges involved in their preservation will be presented, together with the different approaches used by archaeologists and conservators to preserve the uncovered heritage for future generations. ????The Challenges of Preserving Solnitsata Visitors will receive thematic cards focusing on different aspects of the site’s preservation: the fortification walls, residential structures, the presentation of ancient technologies, and the future vision for Provadia–Solnitsata. At the end of the tour, everyone will have the opportunity to share their own ideas and suggestions for preservation of the site. ????Hidden Finds at Solnitsata Children will receive a Young Explorer’s Map and search for hidden images of archaeological finds along the route. After they find all the symbols, they will receive a small prize. ????Information Corner – European Heritage Label Information about what the European Heritage Label is, why Provadia–Solnitsata is part of it, and the significance of the site for Europe’s shared cultural heritage.
