European Archaeology Days
Dear friends of Provadia-Solnitsata, nearly 5,000 of you visited Solnitsata during the month-long spring holiday period in April and May! We sincerely thank you for your interest and the positive feedback. Your personal impressions are our greatest reward – especially for our tour guides, Georgi and Maria. In mid-June, we look forward to another exciting encounter with the past. Provadia-Solnitsata invites you to join us in celebrating the European Archaeology Days on June 13, 14, and 15 – a holiday for archaeologists across Europe, supported by the Council of Europe and the European Commission. This is the moment when archaeology opens its doors to all of you! We take pride in what we’ve achieved at the now world-famous prehistoric site of Provadia-Solnitsata – the oldest known salt production center in Europe, which became the first prehistoric urban center and “mint” of the Old Continent. A founding forum was just held at the medieval salt mine in Wieliczka, near Krakow, Poland, to create a European tourist route connecting both ancient and modern salt extraction centers. On this route, Solnitsata stands as the oldest site, sure to attract strong interest from Europeans. Of course, we need the support of national and local authorities, something we hope will be increasingly understood and appreciated over time. We are currently working with the Municipality of Provadia to expand and renovate the parking area so we can accommodate all our visitors. We look forward to seeing you on June 13, 14, and 15 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) as we celebrate the European Archaeology Days together. Our guides have prepared interesting new information. You’ll leave satisfied with your visit. Visitor groups will depart every hour on the hour from 9 AM to 3 PM (last group). The tour lasts about 50 minutes. Come take a walk with us back in time – full of curiosity, smiles, and a sense of belonging to an extraordinary past! And something special for kids, both young and grown-up: during the festive days, all of them will receive a gift from the Provadia–Solnitsata team. A small but exciting keepsake – so they can remember the place where history comes to life.
