Open Doors Day 22.09.2025

After the two European Heritage Days at the Solnitsata, today we welcomed visitors for the Open Doors Day at Provadia–Solnitsata!
As tradition goes, September 22 brought together many lovers of history and this unique site. This year, the expanded gravel-covered parking area in front of the path hosted even more activities for both kids and adults. ???????????????? Children painted with salt and colors, modeled with clay, and even boiled brine, while adults enjoyed a special display of rare edible plants (with recipes to try at home!) and watched a conservator restore ancient ceramic vessels. A reconstructed vertical loom from Late Prehistory also drew great attention.
Visitors explored the archaeological site after an introduction by the head of the excavations, and guided tours offered insights into the life of Europe’s first civilization. In a special showcase, three fascinating finds caught everyone’s eye – the two expressive faces of the “angry” household spirit and a newly discovered zoomorphic “mask.”
Of course, many took home souvenirs, brochures, or the catalog of Solnitsata’s most exciting discoveries. With perfect holiday weather and over 1,400 visitors, the day was unforgettable for everyone who joined us at this emblematic site of the first European civilization.
