Kathleen McSweeney, MA Hons, PhD, FSA Scot.
She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she lives today. She holds a Master's degree in Archaeology from the University of Edinburgh. Subsequently, she specialised in the field of human osteoarchaeology. She received her PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 2003, with a thesis on the link between health and diet, according to archaeological skeletal remains. She has worked in various locations around the world, including the United Arab Emirates, Romania, Bulgaria and Scotland.
After 20 years, she recently retired from teaching Human Osteoarchaeology at the University of Edinburgh but still supervises PhD students there. She currently holds the position of Honorary Fellow in the School of History, Classics and Archaeology, University of Edinburgh.
Since 2007 she has participated in numerous Bulgarian scientific projects, working with various researchers and has been part of the team of the prehistoric salt-production and urban centre of Provadia-Solnitsata since 2008. She is an Associate Member of the National Institute of Archaeology with Museum – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (NIAM–BAS), Sofia.
