Visit by the Minister of Tourism, Miroslav Borshosh, to Provadia-Solnitsata
Today, the Minister of Tourism, Miroslav Borshosh, visited the Provadia-Solnitsata archaeological site. He was accompanied by Amelia Gesheva, an advisor at the ministry, and was welcomed on site by Emil Radev – Member of the European Parliament from GERB, Kristian Ganchev – Member of Parliament from GERB, Prof. Andriana Andreeva – Regional Governor of Varna, and Plamen Borisov – Executive Director of "Provadsalt" JSC. The guests were received by Prof. Vassil Nikolov, Ph.D, Sc.D., Full member of BAS, head of the field research, who guided them through the complex and presented the oldest salt production and urban center in Europe. Minister Borshosh expressed strong appreciation for the potential to promote the archaeological site as an attractive destination for both Bulgarian and foreign tourists from the Northern Black Sea coast, as well as from other parts of the country and abroad.
Before visiting the Solnitsata, a meeting was held with the Mayor of Provadia, Dimo Dimov. The discussion focused on the possibility of developing a program to support the municipality’s growth as a tourist destination with significant potential.
The guests showed strong interest in the widely discussed idea of establishing a large “Salt Museum” in the center of Provadia. This museum would be part of a tourist route that would also include the exhibition of the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis at the Regional Archaeological Museum – Varna, and the Provadia-Solnitsata salt production complex, which is credited with contributing to the wealth of the "Golden" Necropolis.
The Minister of Tourism expressed his admiration for the prehistoric site and congratulated the archaeological team at the Saltworks for their consistent efforts not only to extract valuable scientific information but also to transform it into one of the most attractive prehistoric sites in Europe.
